Useful Software for Useless Stuff
Now I know you are sitting there and wondering if there are efficient ways to use the
power of these extra keys and an extra LED, without having to remove them. Some people
go out of their way to spend absurd amounts of money on keyboards with extra internet
keys and flashy things, but you've got unused buttons right there in front of you on your
£4.99 bargain package from DELL.
Well, here I have listed a few top notch programs that you could use to put those
useless keys to practical use:
- Hotkey plugin for Winamp -
Assign your least favourite keys to your favourite functions in your favourite MP3 player for Windows.
Well, apparently, I couldn't figure out how to use the thing, but it got a lot of rave reviews, so
who could knock it?
- KeyB Vis Alpha plugin for Winamp -
This plugin finds some use for those 3 LEDs above your numpad. Whenever your music is playing,
the lights will flicker sporadically in time with the music. Not recommended for people with
epileptic problems.
- Hotkeycontrol XP 4.2 -
This handy software allows you to setup hotkeys on your keyboard for all sorts of things.
Restart your computer, change volume, delete Windows Media Player, open your CD tray, close it again,
open and close it. All at the comfort of your keyboard and its most useless keys.
- Scroll Lock Resurrection -
The old usage of Scroll Lock lives once more, with this nifty application. Installing Scroll Lock
Resurrection allows your Windows to behave just like old DOS did, so that when you turn
Scroll Lock on you can use the cursor keys to scroll the current window! Genius!
